The Sarawak Show – What’s freedom in the name of power and fear?

[updated 150411]

On one hand, Najib talks about “transform”, 1Malaysia, freedom, equality… even organising makan with his online friends from tweeter and facebook.

All very well packaged and nice to see/hear/read. Well done, Apco!

BUT on the other hand.. when things are not going well… like the Sarawak Show that Najib is failing badly to stage -  screw the progressiveness mask. It’s now same old story – bring out the iron fist.

In the past week… the following media / blogs have been down. Most of them attacked by DDOS.

Bloggers, Activists denied entry into Sarawak. so far:

What else?

So… in the name of Power and Fear of losing… the rules of a democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, freedom of information – all out of the window.

How Najib? is this what 1Malaysia is about?

I think despite of the above… People Power will win 16 April. History will be made.

We will be victorious

I’m always laughing … even when i smell something rotten. But reading Haris’ posting got delCapo pumped ….

We?

Yes, We – the rakyat, the people, the anak anak bangsa Malaysia… will not falter.

We cool, but we aint’ no fools!
We love, we tear but we got no fear…
not for you anyway!

We will be victorious over the evil forces and their hidden plans.

this is a good song with good lyrics and  a great chorus… maybe we should play it as one of the anthems… kekekeke

Rise up and take the power back, It’s time the Fatkats have heartattacks…

They will not force us, They will stop degrading us,

They will not control us, And we will be Victorious!

P59 Bkt Gantang – Walk with Nizar, Port Weld

Barisan Rakyat team  had the chance to walk with P59 Pakatan Rakyat/PAS candidate – MB Nizar… accompanied by Kuala Sepetang Adun Tai Sing Ng around the historical Port Weld main areas.

300309-port-weld-nizar-8_sharis-leads-nizars-crew300309-port-weld-nizar-7_s

Have you ever seen a man who gets warm & love from every baby/kid he picks up?

300309-port-weld-nizar-15_s300309-port-weld-walk-nnd-57300309-port-weld-walk-nnd-49

Who is the last politician you know inspires an old apek who can hardly walk to insist on getting up & out to greet him?

300309-port-weld-nizar-31_s

Who inspired schoolgirl giggles from 2 grown nurses after having their pix taken?

300309-port-weld-nizar-33_s

Who politely rings the bell before entering a police station & had them stand in attention the whole time (even though they don’t recognise him as MB anymore)

300309-port-weld-nizar-23_s300309-port-weld-walk-nnd-29

How many you know can make his 2 political rivals stay as he was Imam for a maghrib session? (ask Zambry & Muyiddin)?

Even the RTM & Bernama guys who were covering the Port Weld walk were touched would have found it hard to spin a biased story for their masters.

We were SO impressed by him that we gave him one of our Anak Bangsa Malaysia t-shirts in the end…. which he sportingly put on immediately!

*Salute* Dato Ser !! You are truly, a People’s Man….

RPK sets Barisan Rakyat’s support to the 7 April By-elections

Attention Barisan Rakyat Bloggers and Special Bunch teams… the time has come again to mobilise…. get off your asses =]

Dear Comrades,

Since RPK’s self imposed exile from Selangor (read about it here, if you have just returned from outer space)… we will probably miss the great man at our regular Sunday PJ Vigils and Anak Bangsa Malaysia meetings for awhile.

The good news is that the 3 by-elections (Bukit Selambau in Kedah, Bukit Gantang in Perak, Batang AI in Sarawak) are outside Selangor =]

250309-haris-rpkdelcapo-bwHaris met with RPK earlier tonight to plot  frameworks and strategies for the Barisan Rakyat bloggers and ground teams to cover the by-elections.

From RPK & Co’s recent  road trips to Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selembau areas, and visits to Kuching/Batang Ai by other BR comrades.. RPK’s  thoughts:

  1. If possible, dedicated sections on the blogs  for each by elections, for ease of updating & reading.
  2. Batang Ai should be taken care of by our newly aquainted comrades  – the Sarawak Bloggers (check out Dayak Nation, DayakNation.tv, The Borken Shield, Letters from Batang Ai) over in Sarawak & their friends on the ground (some BR guys are also going over to help out)…. supported online by all our blogs to bring them coverage & traffic…. start picking up & linking to their postings.
  3. Bukit Gantang is a PAS seat & with Nizar as candidate, looks like a likely Pakatan Rakyat/PAS win. HOWEVER,  judging from the current & recent events surrounding the Perak constitutional crisis, and pre-elections mood on the ground…  an intense & ugly battle is anticipated…… Plenty of work  to be done… no complacency allowed. BR efforts will be concentrated here, based out of Taiping (with love, no less)
  4. Bukit Selembau looks to be messy…. with multiple independent candidates thrown in to complicate matters. BR team shall support and cover it based out of Taiping as well. We shall be working with PAS and Makkal Sakthi comrades.

batang-aibukit-gantangbukit-selambau

The captain has spoken …. lets get organised….

May the FORCE be with all of us & all in Batang Ai, Bukit Gantang & Bukit Selembau.

Lets continue to return Malaysia back to the Rakyat!! PEOPLE POWER!!!

RPK ISA Trial Putrajaya – positives

Haris once again blogged live from Putrajaya’s Palace of Justice earlier today.

230209-putrajaya-group-1

Observations & reflections:

  • This is a “sidetrack” from the main appeal case by the Home minister on High Court decision allowing RPK’s release from ISA… to “complain” about the panel of judges’ behaviour last week in court.
  • Malik Imtiaz kicked ass again… DPP Tun Majid was a joke of a “learned” opponent.
  • The 3 judges on the panel today – Justices Richard Malanjum, Ariffin Zakaria and Alauddin Sheriff carried themselves impeccably… as compared to “the other 3″ of the actual appeal hearing (Nik Hashim, Zulkifli & Augustine Paul)… we didn’t feel like we had to throw shoes at them =]
  • There were RPK supporters who showed up in solidarity to pack 2 courtrooms…. but we could have definitely done better….  perhaps RPK’s latest posting gave many the idea that it’s not such a big deal today…. perhaps most people still choose to remain “silent supporters”…. perhaps it takes RPK to be thrown back into Kamunting before you guys show up in support again…. perhaps perhaps perhaps.
  • For those who showed up…. kudos!! They included YB Karpal Singh, Antares (great to see u, bro… all the way from Magick River!!), Datuk Seri Wan Azizah, Norlaila Othman (GMI) and some true blood anak bangsa Malaysia.

No, we have not gotten what we all want (the dismissal of Botak’s appeal)… but the fact that the judges reserved their judgement (instead of just throwing it out).. the fact that the case is now ajourned til further notice…. RPK has bought himself more freedom…

Malik Imtiaz commented “for the first time in weeks, I fell normal”…. poor guy was referring to his health… delCapo takes it as positive vibes… it was little, but it was a day of positives anyhow.

You can find he 2 lead councils’ reflections in  Malik’s latest article Art Harun’s latest posting.

PJ “Vigil” 220209 – a nice change…

The “normal” PJ Candle-light vigil took a step of evolution this week…..

Thanks to Aloysious’ organisation.. the group met in Lotus’ private funtion room…. so we can proceed with our agenda & discussions without being hindered by the issue of “legality in assembly”.

No folks, we have not given upthe fight to freely assemble peacefully…. that agenda shall be addressed along the way.

On this night… practicality came first….

What we managed to do in taking this step?

  • 50 people gathered peacfully to discuss various issues.
  • The PJ Police got an early night off.
  • Brothers SBs had an easier evening of work to report back =]
  • Prayers for RPK… for justice & freedom.
  • We managed to revisit The People’s Declaration and the meaning of Anak Bangsa Malaysia.
  • We concurred with Jaya that one of the first & MOST important work for us is to push for voters registration.
  • We heard that the agenda for Anak Bangsa Malaysia includes No to ISA & replace it with a well written XXX Bill (e.g Anti Terrorrism). We now have the resources & oppotunity to take it beyond PJ’s MBPJ tarmac & Lotus restaurant.

Kudos to all the speakers -  Haris, Richard, Peter, Jaya, Melvin, James, the nice lady who (hopefully) will not give up on her other ethnic friends, the nice gentleman who believes in pushing for better environmental awareness…. and last but not least, Eli Wong’s supporter who joined in to rally support for her plight.

Kudos to ALL who showed up…. we shall continue our discussions… lets bring more friends next week.

Malaysiakini – Money Politics at KT backfiring….

Money Politics rearing it’s ugly ugly heads… in Kuala Terrenganu…

How bad?

1) 7 FRU trucks with full battle geared personnel at KT’s Grand Continental hotel vicinity….. apprently a fight broke out…. delCapo was eye witness to the FRU presence (sorry no pix)

2) 2 Journalists needed help…. Haris, Zorro & Gus went to their rescue….

Now… these incidents mirror Malaysiakini’s story below…. delCapo dun believe in coincidence.

MONEY POLITICS is EVIL…. EVIL has a price…. we will know the price in a day’s time =]

‘Cash for voters’ sparks commotion
Andrew Ong | Jan 16, 09 7:22pm
There was a small commotion at a hotel in Kuala Terengganu this evening following a rumour that a political party was distributing cash to voters in tomorrow’s by-election.

MCPX

kuala terengganu by election vote buying in hotel 160109 03When Malaysiakini arrived at the scene around 5.30pm, scores of people were seen filling their names and identity card numbers on a blank piece of paper in the banquet hall.

The crowd of about 100 appeared uncomfortable at the sight of journalists taking photographs and started urging others to stop writing their particulars.

As more journalist streamed into the banquet hall, an unidentified man picked up some 10 sheets of papers containing the particulars and left the hall.

kuala terengganu by election vote buying in hotel 160109 02“I will ask my boss if there is any more money for us,” said the man, prompting the crowd to leave the hotel.

Most of those in the hall were elderly people who claimed that they had attended a buffet high-tea at 4pm.

Unlike most political events, there was no party logos or banners used to decorate the hall. There were conflicting claims as to who organised the event.

Among those who allegedly spoke to the crowd during the meal was a former menteri besar from a West coast state.

By the time the press arrived, the situation became chaotic with many complaining aloud that they had been cheated since no money was distributed.

Some also claimed that those who had come earlier were able to collect the money.Journalists given money

In another development, RM300 cash was distributed to more than a dozen journalists at the state information department’s media centre in Kuala Terengganu.

kuala terengganu by election money given to media reporters at media centre 160109Journalists were asked to list their names, the organisation they worked for and telephone numbers on a blank piece of paper by a media centre staff before being given a white envelope containing six RM50 notes.

Four Malaysiakini journalists wrote their details on the paper without knowing about the money.

The four later returned the envelopes with a total of RM1,200 to the media centre staff. Several other journalists have done the same.

The media centre staff could not answer when quizzed about the source of the money.

At 6pm, two journalists from Chinese-language online news Merdeka Review lodged a police report on the matter at the Terengganu police headquarters.

Information Ministry denies role

Meanwhile, according to a Bernama report later in the day, the Information Ministry denied making any payment to journalists covering the by-election.

Information Minister’s press secretary Hisham Abdul Hamid said the ministry had never directed any of its officers to do such a thing.

“This has never been the practice of the Information Ministry,” he told Bernama.
